EcoWorld London sponsor the Kew Royal Botanic Gardens' annual Community Open Week and Community Learning Programme

  • EcoWorld London partners with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to deliver Community Learning Programme

EcoWorld London, the leading London residential developer, announces its partnership with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, as the official sponsors of Kew’s annual Community Open Week and its Community Learning Programme.

The partnership will act as a gateway to attract and engage new and diverse audiences, including those from low income and under-represented groups. Participants will visit and discover Kew Gardens and its incredible plant collections and scientific work, with learning programmes offered on and off-site.

Community Open Week is a seven-day event offering under-represented communities across London the chance to explore the relevance of plants and fungi to their lives via a blended offer of online, outreach and on-site events and activities. The partnership will also support activities such as online music and nature workshops, school engagement programmes, and provide 2,500 admission passes for pupils at high-needs schools in Hounslow to visit Kew Gardens with their families.

As part of EcoWorld London’s longstanding relationship with local schools, Green Dragon Primary and Isleworth & Syon will be working in partnership with RBG Kew to deliver educational assemblies on the importance of plants and on careers in science. RBG Kew will also contribute to the ongoing works at Green Dragon School to support the delivery of inspirational learning in the outdoor wooded learning area.

As Kew Bridge Gate, a new neighbourhood in Brentford brought forward by EcoWorld London, comes to completion in the summer, it will become the site for Community Learning and musical activations, in conjunction with Kew’s Learning & Participation team.

Heng Leong Cheong, CEO, EcoWorld London said:
“Connecting people with nature is hugely important to EcoWorld London– as you can see by the central role played by green spaces in our communities – so we are delighted to be supporting Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the valuable work it does. Investing in the communities in which we build is a vital part of the EcoWorld London DNA. As our Kew Bridge Gate development moves towards completion, it has never been more important that we work in partnership with valued institutions such as RBG Kew, to deliver, and assist in the delivery of, meaningful programmes, to leave a lasting legacy for London and the people who live and work there.”

Neal Donnelly, Director of Development, RBG Kew said:
“Partnerships of this nature are an important way to connect organisations, their staff and supporters to RBG Kew’s mission to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of the planet, as well as providing vital funding for our outreach programmes. We very much welcome EcoWorld London’s generous support of the Community Learning Programme and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Julia Willison, Head of Participation & Learning, RBG Kew said:
“We are delighted to be entering into this partnership with EcoWorld London, who share the same sense of community mindedness as we do. Our annual Community Open Week is a fantastic way of breaking down access barriers, and connecting with audiences who may never have visited Kew Gardens before. We are looking forward to developing this long-term partnership, sharing the wonders of Kew Gardens and discovering together how we can support participants’ needs. To have EcoWorld London’s passion and resources behind this drive will really enhance what we can achieve.”

EcoWorld London is completing the regeneration of Kew Bridge Gate with the new 17,250 seat stadium for Brentford Football Club and nearly 1,000 new homes. The development has also provided £12.9 million for local infrastructure and a range of employment and training initiatives for local people.

It has continuously supported Hounslow communities and organisations through a number of initiatives including providing free hot meals for pupils of Green Dragon School during the pandemic and providing donations and winter survival packs to the Open Kitchen.

In November 2020 it launched a pre-employment training programme, which has provided construction training and qualifications worth £2,000 per person residents of Hounslow. The programme will run until the project’s estimated completion in 2025.
