New Barking Wharf development set to create over 100 new jobs and 15 apprenticeships for locals

EcoWorld London, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Midgard have been working in partnership to ensure employment opportunities are available to those who live in the boroughs in which we build. In 2018 we held a careers fair at Barking Wharf, a live construction site, which welcomed over 75 people local to the borough.

The careers day showcased training and professional opportunities in the construction industry, from apprenticeships in electrical, plumbing and brickwork, to positions in administration and site management.

Barking Wharf is set for completion in 2021, by which time the project would have created over 100 new jobs and 15 apprenticeships for local people, in addition to holding several career advice and guidance events to further support Barking and Dagenhams’s community. Today, around 20% of the people who work on site daily, are from the local area.

Both EcoWorld London and London Borough of Barking and Dagenham also share an ambition to create a vibrant place in Barking which will include 597 new homes, public spaces and a new site for the East End Women’s Museum.

Barking Wharf is located opposite a medieval royal monastery at Barking Abbey Grounds which has been described as one of the most important nunneries in the country. A new quality public amenity space will open up access to the River Roding from the Abbey Grounds for the first time.

The apartments at Barking Wharf which form part of the 1,100 homes in London which were acquired by Invesco Real Estate, the global real estate investment manager, on behalf of one of its international separate account clients. As part of the agreement, EcoWorld London will let and manage the rental homes on behalf of the investor under a long-term contract. The deal between EcoWorld London and Invesco Real Estate was finalised in December 2018.
