Aberfeldy community has Snow Much Fun in new Aberfeldy Square

Aberfeldy residents celebrated the festive season at the new Aberfeldy Square in Aberfeldy Village, Poplar with a Christmas light switch on, carols and family-friendly activities, with Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar and Lansbury ward councillors in attendance.

Aberfeldy Street traders, developer EcoWorld London and housing association Poplar HARCA, welcomed the local community with free activities such as Christmas card and lantern making, upcycled denim ornament workshops with London College of Fashion’s Making for Change team, hot drinks and festive treats and a roaming Santa.

The festivities continued in the newly completed Aberfeldy Square with market stalls featuring wares from furniture upcycle business More Life Home and the Aberfeldy Big Local Knit and Knatter group, Talkeoke by The People Speak and a performance by Poplar Singers. The evening culminated in a Christmas light switch on with local resident and Aberfeldy Community Centre volunteer Sada Dirir, Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar, Councillor Amin Rahman, Councillor Ohid Ahmed, Councillor Iqbal Hossain and Councillor Jahed Choudhury.

As we look forward to 2023, I want you to know that we are on your side.”

Natalie Dinsmore, founder and CEO of More Life Home, said:

“Participating in the celebrations and hosting workshops and a pop - up stall was a great way to connect with the community, promote More Life Home's products and services and visualise possibilities for the future in the new public square. Everyone had a wonderful time, so thank you to Poplar Harca and EcoWorld London for the opportunity to do so!”
