Aberfeldy celebrates Chinese New Year
Alongside a lion dance, a traditional Malaysian art form used to bless new buildings, a group of Aberfeldy residents got an exclusive first look at their eagerly awaited new community centre, cafe and health and wellbeing centre, before their doors open this spring.
A total of seven new services will open in Aberfeldy Square, located in the heart of the neighbourhood, in 2023. As well as a new, bigger community centre and health and wellbeing centre, a wellness café, food shop, pharmacy, nursery, and deli restaurant, will also open by summer. The Aberfeldy community were joined by Councillor Iqbal Hossain to bless their new buildings and welcome the Year of the Rabbit.
Aberfeldy has been the centre of major regeneration over the past decade, providing over 900 much-needed new homes in Tower Hamlets, led by EcoWorld London and Poplar HARCA. A planning decision on an ambitious new masterplan for the next phase of the redevelopment is expected in February. The new masterplan will deliver circa 1,600 new homes, including 440 affordable new homes, 210 of which will be family size homes for social rent. A new mosque and enhanced public realm promoting health and wellbeing will sit alongside a transformed local high street, providing up to 25,500 sq ft of new retail space and up to 29,100 sq ft of new workspace.
