National Apprenticeship Week at Kew Bridge Gate
National Apprenticeship Week highlights the importance of apprenticeships, the value it can bring to the built environment industry, and the career developments that are made possible in multiple sectors that host apprenticeships. We visited our Kew Bridge Gate site in Hounslow to talk to some graduates of our pre-employment training programme, a partnership with MIT Skills, on how this has provided a sustainable pathway to full-time employment and their aspirations for the future.

Amarie Fenty
Hounslow resident Amarie joined the pre-employment scheme and is now in full-time employment as an apprentice carpenter for Pantera Carpentry.
Declan Weir
Brentford local Declan is currently an apprentice for Kane Group and is on track to become a fully qualified electrician.
Hussun Saiyed
Hussun is a Hounslow resident who is now a full-time employee for Kane Group as an electrical apprentice, with the opportunity to take his apprenticeship skills into different sectors of construction and management.
The pre-employment training programme launched in November 2020 and comprises a two-week course delivering industry-specific qualifications, followed by a two-week work placement. The participants not only gain confidence, but also valuable qualifications and work experience on a live site. So far we have provided opportunities to 80 unemployed Hounslow residents, with 60% of participants going on to gain long-term employment following the programme.
